N.I.E.S 2024 POST EVENT SUMMARY

H.E Bola Ahmed Tinubu

The 7th edition of Nigeria International Energy Summit (NIES), organized by Brevity Anderson on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources and NNPC Limited, was held from 26th February – 1st March 2024 in Abuja Nigeria.

Energy Security, as we know, is of paramount importance. It is not just a national concern; it is a global imperative. In the face of emerging challenges, both geopolitical and technological, we must ensure the resilience of our energy infrastructure. The decisions we make today will impact the energy security of generations to come.

H.E. PRESIDENT BOLA AHMED TINUBU, GCFR

Haitham-Al-Ghais

“Nigeria’s role in OPEC’s past and present is a tremendous source of pride; but we are also acutely conscious of Nigeria and Africa’s critical role in the future of our Organization and the energy industry more broadly.

Africa has a young and vibrant population. By 2045, the Middle East and Africa region is forecast to be the leading region by overall population, adding 723 million people in the period 2022-2045, according to OPEC’s World Oil Outlook.

We anticipate a bright future for Africa’s oil industry with substantial opportunities for growth. The continent is home to five of the top 30 oil-producing countries and its proven oil reserves amounted to around 119 billion barrels at the end of 2022.

H.E. HAITHAM AL GHAIS, SECRETARY GENERAL, OPEC

Geaorge Akume

The theme for this year’s summit, “Navigating the New Energy World Order: Security, Transition, and Finance,” underscores the complexities and challenges that our great nation faces in the dynamic landscape of the global energy sector. This theme is not just a reflection of our current realities but a call to action for all stakeholders to collaboratively address the critical issues that lie at the intersection of energy security, transition, and financial sustainability.

The Nigeria International Energy Summit has evolved over the years into the most prestigious gathering of minds in the energy sector, and this edition has been no exception. We have been privileged to host industry leaders, policymakers, and experts who have shared their insights, experiences, and expertise. The exchange of ideas and the spirited discussions witnessed here have undoubtedly charted a course for the future of energy in our nation.”

H.E. SENATOR GEORGE AKUME, SECRETARY TO THE GOVERNMENT OF THE FEDERATION
